'For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. '
Here in the book of Romans, Paul was speaking to followers of Jesus who lived in Rome.
In the previous verse, he told the believers how eager he was to preach the gospel in Rome. What gave Paul the eagerness he had to share the gospel? What Paul says in verse 16, provides us with the answer. Paul stated, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes" ( Romans 1:16 ). Paul's eagerness and boldness in sharing the Gospel came from knowing how much power there was in it. The gospel of Jesus has the power to bring to salvation anyone who believes in it, saving them from death and eternal separation from God in the lake of fire ( Revelation 20:15 ). Apart from Jesus, people truly have no hope or way to be forgiven of their sins. So, it is necessary that the Gospel is proclaimed. Having the same confidence that Paul had in the truth of what the gospel is will also give us the boldness to share it with unbelievers.
Q: When have you been tempted to not share the gospel for fear of what people would say?
Q: How could meditating on Paul's words in Romans 1:16 give you the courage in sharing the gospel boldly with unbelievers?
