"(13) Then the Lord said to Moses, 'Rise up early in the morning and present yourself before Pharaoh and say to him, "Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, 'Let my people go, that they may serve me. (14) For this time I will send all my plagues on you yourself, and on your servants and your people, so that you may know that there is none like me in all the earth. (15) For by now I could have put out my hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, and you would have been cut off from the earth. (16) But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth. (17) You are still exalting yourself against my people and will not let them go.'"'
God called the Israelites "my people" in the message He wanted Moses to give before Pharoah. By referring to the Israelites this way, God showed His claim on the Israelites as His own possession amongst all the other nations of the world in accordance with the Abrahamic Covenant ( Gen. 17:7-8 ). With that Covenant God promised to be the God of Abraham and of all Abraham's future descendants. Through it, the Israelites received the blessing of knowing the One True God of the Universe as their Ruler. For a while, this was a blessing largely held only by the Israelites. Today, however, all people in the world are invited to know the God of the Universe for themselves because of the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Of Jesus it is said... "But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, (13) who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God"
( John 1:12-13 ). All have access to taste of God's goodness and love through Jesus and those who decide to put their faith in Him will become children of God too.
God, Creator of the heavens and the earth, thank You for the blessing of being able to know You personally through Jesus. Thank You for extending Your grace to all people and for wanting all to be saved. Please help me to take advantage of this gift and to seek to know You more each day. Be glorified through me.
