Our Personal God

(6/18/23)

"Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you"

Recently, I've been overwhelmed with work that I have to do. During these times when finishing tasks become my focus, my relationship with God begins to weaken as my to-do list clutters my mind. No matter how much work I do, it feels like I always have other things to worry about. At the same time, the cares of the world lead me to forget what it means to have an actual relationship with my Heavenly Father. Instead of seeing God as the Personal God who has seen me through some of the darkest times in my life, who knows me fully, and who is actively working in the world for His glory, I began to see spending time with Him as another task. This prevents me from slowing down to acknowledge the reality of who God is.

God wants His people to draw close to Him and know Him personally. If we draw near to Him, He will also draw near to us ( Jam. 4:8 ). When you are overwhelmed with daily tasks and it is harmfully impacting your relationship with God, pray. Ask God for help in regaining your focus back on Him and align yourself with God's priorities and purposes for the world. Likewise, draw near to God with confidence that He will also draw near to you. All the tasks and work we have to do will soon pass away along with the world as we know it ( 1 John 2:17 ). With this in mind, make your relationship with God a priority and let Him guide you in all that you need to accomplish.

God, Creator of the heavens and the earth, please help me to regain focus back on You. Take my focus off of the tasks of today and help me to prioritize doing Your will. Please guide me in the things I need to do and thank You for all Your help.

In Jesus' Name, I pray, Amen.
