'"For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."'
Have you ever felt like you knew God's will so clearly and that you had it all figured out, only for God to take things in a completely different direction?
It's situations like these that leave me troubled and with feelings of uncertainty as I ask God, "What are you even doing??". Additionally, it was during this season when God didn't work in an understandable way that I often got angry at Him and doubted His plan for me. Thankfully, however, God stepped in to change my mindset.
In times of uncertainty, one thing that we can be certain of is that God knows what He is doing. God has a specific plan for each of our lives and even if things seem hectic or aren't going the way we assumed they would go, we can trust that God has everything covered. God can even work despite the mistakes we make to fashion them together for our good and for His glory. Trust God in the midst of waiting for a promise, in the midst of heartache, and when you have no clue about what is going on around you. Trust God when you think you know what He is doing, but He switches things up and it turns out you were completely wrong!
We are called to trust in the Lord; to trust in Him with all our heart and to lean not on our own understanding ( Proverbs 3:5-6 ). When seasons of waiting and uncertainty come, look up! "Look up", meaning to fix your eyes on God and glorify Him for what He is doing in your life even if you don't know exactly what that is. Praise Him with full confidence that His plans for you are to prosper you and not to harm you and praise Him for His goodness. See this time of uncertainty as a way of God teaching you to trust Him more and remember that He is in control always and forevermore. Nothing can stop His plan for your life from being brought to completion.
The process of changing our mindset from questioning God to trusting Him can come as we fix our minds on what we know to be true about Him. Also, it can come through thanking God for the lessons He teaches us in these seasons. Here are some reflective questions that can help you redirect your mindset to God's goodness and His total control in times of uncertainty:
Q: What are some specific lessons that God has taught you during this time?
Q: As you look upon your situation in life, do any Bible accounts of people of the faith come to your mind that resembles your situation? If so, what can you learn from those verses that will help you in trusting God more in the present?
Q: What are some sins or bad habits present in your life that God has made known to you in this time?
Q: What changes can you make in your attitude and mindset as you trust God knowing that He has your life in His Hands?
God, thank You for not always working in a way that is clear and understandable. Thank You for bringing us through seasons of uncertainty where we are forced to trust and rely on You more. Help me to trust You, God, even though I don't completely understand what You are doing in my life. I know that Your ways are higher than my ways and that You know what You are doing. Thank You for everything You are doing and let Your will be done.
In Jesus's Name, I pray, amen.
