Storing Eternal Treasures

(4-18-23)

(19) "'Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. (20) But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.'"

In the world, many people desire to be wealthy. To be a successful person, some even believe that it is necessary to have a high salary, multiple cars, and a nice house. Although money can indeed bring us comfort and luxury in this life, it's important to remember that its influence is temporary. It cannot be used to buy salvation nor can it secure the eternal future of the one who trusts in it. In fact, the rich "will take nothing with them when they die, their splendor will not descend with them" (Psa 49:17 NIV).

When speaking on where our focus should be, Jesus states,

(24) "'No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money'" (Matt. 6:24).

Our focus should be on pleasing God and on working for His Kingdom instead of on pursuing material wealth. It's impossible to live a life pleasing to God while also loving money more than Him. Everything that money can buy is temporary and is not worth our focus. On the other hand, God is eternal and He is sufficient to meet every one of our needs at the perfect time.

God, Creator of the heavens and the earth, please help me not to run after wealth and help me to be a good steward of the money You entrust me with. Please help me to devote myself to You and not store up treasures here that will soon fade away. Thank You for the blessing of eternity with You and help me to set my heart where You are.

In Jesus' Name, I pray, amen.
