If I Was Stranded On a Deserted Island, What Three Things Would I Bring With Me?

( 7 ) Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?
( 8 ) If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
( 9 )If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea ( 10 ) even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.
If I just so happened to be stranded alone on a deserted island and could only bring three things with me, I would choose a water purifier, a knife, and my Bible. To some, the Bible isn't the most practical item to bring for the situation, but I think it's still important. I can imagine the fear associated with being stranded alone on a deserted island. Not knowing when help would come or what type of creatures live in the habitat would be very off-setting.
However, having God's Word with me would bring me the hope and security that nothing else could bring while stranded on that island. Through Scripture, I can be constantly reminded of the fact that the Living God is with me and that I am not alone ( Psalm 139:7-10). That way, my hope would not be in whether I find food for the day nor would it be in the possibility of an aircraft flying above me at just the right time to see my SOS message laid out. Instead, it would be in God, the Creator of the Universe and former of all the world's islands. I can trust that He would provide for me on that island and that He would give me what I need. And, I would have His Word to remind me of His faithfulness to do so. Furthermore, even if I was destined to live the rest of my God-given life on that island, I could be certain of where I would be when I die. The hope of eternal life in Christ that awaits all who put their trust in Him surpasses all the trials the world could throw at us. Even in the most desperate and trying times, the hope of eternal life is enough to carry the one who trusts Jesus for it. This a promise that God's Word would remind me of on that island. A hope that I could stand and rest in. One that would not change whether I was rescued or not.
Perhaps you are going through a tough time right now and you feel as if you are stranded. Maybe you are in a place where you feel like there is no way out. How can you look to God's Word for help in this time? How does knowledge of God's constant presence in your life encourage you to continue depending on Him for deliverance? In times of trial, God is the best companion to have and the One that we should all rely on. He will provide you with all you need and He will be your constant Helper ( Matt. 6:25-33 ). Trust in Him today and continue seeking Him through prayer and daily reading His Word. Your life is in His Hands.
God, Creator of the heavens and the earth, You are good. Thank You for letting us know that You are always with us wherever we go. Please help me through the trials in my life and please deliver me from my struggles. Nothing is too hard for You, God, and with You all things are possible. So, I know that I can depend on You and trust in You for freedom. Please be glorified.
In Jesus' Name, I pray, amen.
