"But Moses pleaded with the Lord, 'O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.' (11) Then the Lord asked Moses, 'Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? (12) Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.'”
When God appeared to Moses in the burning bush, He let Moses know His plan to save the Israelites from slavery in Egypt through him ( Ex. 3:1-10 ). However, Moses immediately began to express doubts and concerns that he had. One of the concerns stemmed from an insecurity about his voice. In chapter 4, verse 10, Moses explains to God that he has never spoken eloquently and that he tangles his words.
You may be responding to God's calling on your life in the same way that Moses was. You may be unwilling to pursue what God is leading you to do because you feel as if you don't have the proper skills or abilities for that job. If you let them, these worries can discourage you from pursuing God's plan for your life and leave you unwilling to obey.
God responded to Moses's doubts by reminding Moses of who He is. God reminded Moses that He is the One who makes each man's mouth ( Ex. 4:11 ). Which means that He was the One who made Moses's mouth. God was aware of the way Moses spoke before He even appeared to Moses in the bush, yet He still called Moses.
God went on to say to Moses in verse 12, "'Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.'" God would be with Moses as he spoke. He would teach Moses what he was supposed to say. God wouldn't leave Moses to plan out what he was to say to Pharoah and the Israelites himself. God wouldn't leave Moses to his own abilities. All that Moses would have to do is trust that God would be with him and that God's power exceeded his weaknesses.
Likewise, God already knows of the areas in your life where you feel you are insufficient to do the job He has for you. After all, He is the One who created you and He is aware of your strengths and weaknesses. It was never intended that you would step into your calling based on your own strengths or ability. Trust that God knows what He is doing when He is calling you to a specific thing and obey His leading. Surrender the reasons you have for why you can't do what God is calling you to do to God and fix your eyes on His power. Remember that He is going to be the One working through you and that He is more than capable to accomplish His purposes through your obedience.
Thank God for the opportunity to be a vessel for His power to be seen by others. Rejoice in knowing that your weaknesses don't prevent God from impacting others through you for His Kingdom. Nothing is too hard for God to do ( Jeremiah 32:27, Matt. 19:26 ).
God, please help me to take my eyes off of myself and back onto You. You are able to perform the works that You have planned for me to do despite my weaknesses and insecurities and I know that Your power is made perfect in my weakness. Please help me with any feelings of unwillingness I have and help me to surrender my concerns to You. Please, take away my fears and help me to remember that You are with me.
In Jesus' Name, I pray, Amen.
